Making a decision about a therapist that you can trust and deciding on the right type of therapy is one of the most daunting tasks a person can face, in the midst of an already difficult time of your life.

I feel that Therapeutic Relationship that you build with your therapist is the most important aspect of therapy. If you do not have a trusting, honest and comfortable relationship with your therapist, your therapy will not have the maximum benefit in your life, regardless of whether it is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or any other therapy type.

Often your therapist will teach and guide you and it is up to you to put this into practice in your life. Much like riding a bicycle. Your therapist teach you to ride but they can't turn the peddles for you.

I do not believe that there is one therapy that suits all individuals or even all the issues within an individual. I therefore practice from an integrative therapy approach, which means that I amalgamate and incorporate all three schools of psychotherapy. This enables me to design bespoke therapy for each individual and for each scenario within the therapeutic relationship. This makes therapy relevant for the client and it means that the most appropriate therapeutic approach is adopted and/or adapted for each problem.

This approach also allows me to take the client's individuality into account and fashion a therapy plan that will suit the client's specific needs.

In order to be truly integrative I draw on all three schools of psychotherapy:

The Psychoanalytic

for example

  • Emotionally-Focussed Therapy
  • Object Relations Therapy
  • Ego Psychology

Cognitive/Behavioural

for example

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)
  • Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Humanistic/Existential

for example

  • Person Centred Therapy
  • Gestalt Therapy
  • Multi Cultural Therapy

Process of therapy

The process begins with an initial consultation to establish whether I am the correct therapist for you and for you to decide whether you could work with me. Should you and I want to proceed with the therapeutic process, we will enter into a working alliance that is normally structured around weekly sessions (50 minutes).

The length of therapy will be determined by the problem, the rate of progress, other issues that might come to light as the process continues and the type of therapy used.

therapist quoe Ahead of my first session with Tania, I was very sceptical that she would be able to help me in any way. I had been suffering from anxiety for all of my adult life and was convinced that it was a problem I had probably been born with.
